Any "NEW" to AAU Club Volleyball Officials are required to attend a training session prior to working assignments. Many of you have identified January 6th as your preferred date for training. The class will begin promptly at 9am at the UWM Sports Complex located at 867 S Blvd E, Pontiac, MI 48341.
Training includes a two hour classroom session followed by an on-court evaluation lasting an additional two hours. The cost for this training is $20. Following your on-court session, you can stay around and watch, be trained on-court some more, or just ask questions.
Once the training is completed, I can consider scheduling you for the remaining week-ends.
Our primary goal is making sure you know some of the basic rules. At the club level, you work alone so there is not an experienced R2 to assist you if you don't know a rule.
Additionally, to help prepare you for the club season the following information is regarding uniforms. As a first year official there is no need to purchase the entire allowable wardrobe. Most officials begin by simply wearing a solid white collar polo type shirt and navy blue dress slacks with white tennis shoes. As you gain experience the following requirements would apply;
Volleyball polo-style shirt that is one of the three (3) approved colors, with the following specifications:
Approved official designation on the left sleeve (“Volleyball Certified Official”), which is protected by copyright.
Long or short sleeves.
The white shirt is the default, so all referees must own a white shirt.
Dark navy blue slacks that are pressed and in good repair (not faded).
Black or dark navy blue leather belt (if slacks are made for a belt)
Shoes and socks that meet the following specifications:
Clean, white athletic shoes
Non-marking rubber soles
No exposed “coils” (for example, the “Z-Coil” style)
All white socks, at least crew length
Optional outerwear that may be worn while officiating a match, if permitted by the assignor:
Certified officials jacket - white, with approved official embroidered designation on the left sleeve (“Volleyball Certified Official”).
Sleeves cannot be pushed up.
Nothing stored in the pockets.
